The brief of the project
“Equality is a human right. We are all entitled to live with dignity and with the freedom of self-expression without fear. These rights should apply for people of all genders, sexual orientations, beliefs, ethnicities, or any other the individual in a minority.”
Background
Feminism, the belief in social, economic, and political equality of the sexes. Although largely originating in the West, feminism is manifested worldwide and is represented by various institutions committed to activity on behalf of women’s rights and interests。
There has been progressing over the last decades: More girls are going to school, fewer girls are forced into early marriage, more women are serving in parliament and positions of leadership, and laws are being reformed to advance gender equality.
Despite these gains, many challenges remain: discriminatory laws and social norms remain pervasive, women continue to be underrepresented at all levels of political leadership, and 1 in 5 women and girls between the ages of 15 and 49 report experiencing physical or sexual violence by an intimate partner within a 12-month period.
Initial ideas
Target people:female
To accompany it, I want to design an app about caring for women. And named this app is ‘Athena’. I wrote the following description: Athena the goddess associated with wisdom, handicraft, and warfare who was later syncretized with the Roman goddess Minerva. Western artists have often used Athena as a symbol of freedom and democracy.
‘Athena’ is an app based around uniting under-represented groups through personal experiences and passions around their life experience. The app will feature a discussion on sexism and imposter syndrome within the music industry by acting as a safe place for discussion and self-expression. It strives to build a creative atmosphere in which women feel inspired without fear of inequality or discrimination in such a male-dominated field.
A few topic ideas could be (but are not limited to): imposter syndrome, empowerment, how you make music, feminist men (they exist!), how equality is improving, how equality still sucks, money, fame, competition, your record collection, your creative process. It could also be a playlist of inspiration or a write-up on your favorite female icons.
The process of designing this app requires first research. The first research will use questionnaires to learn about women's inequality events and want to understand people's views on gender.
Later, I will learn more about some women's events, and I will conduct interview research. After completing these researches, I will start brainstorming to design the functions in the app. The most challenging part of this project is the preliminary research. Now my ability is limited, and I may not learn more about consultation in a short time.
Gender equality is not only a fundamental human right but a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world.
